公立並びに私立の幼稚園、小学校、中学校、高等学校（全日制）に通う幼児児童生徒をもつ保護者が１年間に支出した子供一人当たりの経費を、学校教育費・学校給食費・学校外活動費に分け、世帯の年間収入の実態とともに調査したもの。
加えて家族構成、世帯収入、親の最終学歴、もともに調査されている。
